Don’t Wait (Hanahan Family Photographer)

A few weeks ago, we took our children to a small town here in South Carolina to see Santa. After the children saw Santa and our baby girl cried in terror, we drove to the country.  I happened to take my camera that day and we found a beautiful place to let the kids explore and for us to just breathe in the country air.  As we moved through an amazing field, my husband said, “Here, let me have the camera.”  Honestly, it never occurred to me to let him take my camera.  I thought, my hair isn’t right, this shirt isn’t my favorite, the kids have boogers on their faces, etc.  He wasn’t taking no for an answer, so I handed over the camera and went on my way.  I had Carson in my hands and started to play with her.  My girl is at the age now where she smiles and laughs.  Where you can lift her over your head and she’ll giggle loudly.  This age, is my most favorite age and you can tell by the looks on our faces.

I have a daughter.  Yes, I have two amazing boys, but it still hits me now and again as I see her pink shoes- I have a daughter.  When I got home from our trip, I looked at the pictures from the day and I saw a ton that I loved.  I am sure some of those will show up here at some point.  However, when I saw this one above, my heart stood still.  Wow.  Yes, it’s an amazing picture, the scenery, the composure, etc.  The husband has natural talent can be my second shooter any day.  Anyway, what took my breath away about this picture is that it is me and my girl.  I don’t know how many pictures I have of us together, alone.   Not many.  We’re a close family, we’re all always – together.

Years from now when I am old, I hope my daughter will look at this picture and be happy she has it.  I promise you she won’t look at it and think, “I had boogers on my nose or mom’s shirt isn’t perfect.”  She will look at this picture and only see us, her and I, happy and together.  She will not remember this moment, but I will for all of my days.

I urge you as parents to give up control and have someone take your picture professionally.  Whether it’s me or not, I don’t care.  Just don’t wait.  There will always be another excuse, another reason to wait and time will pass and the moment will be gone.  Take a breather and enjoy the moment.  This picture of me means the absolute world to me and I am thankful to have it.

Jones Family (Moncks Corner Child & Family Photographer)

My last shoot of the season is always this family. They mean the world to me and I truly feel lucky to have them in my life. These AMAZING children are my niece and nephew. I love them as much as my own children and the best part is I think they are the coolest kids ever. Yes, I’m biased, but I really think they’re amazing.

Graham is the nicest boy. My boys worship the ground he walks on. He is so nice he lets them tag along and make them feel included. Class act, this kid.

My oldest boy (on the left) always asks (more like begs) if he can come with me to my sessions. He promises to make funny faces to make the children laugh. I know he would be so well behaved and do a wonderful job as an assistant, but not quite yet. Due to this being family, I let him come. He did exactly what he said he would, except, he kept asking for me to take HIS picture with them. Of course it was so warm that day, that he shed his cute shirt for his white t-shirt. Alas, this picture is proudly hung in his room. Note how my son’s hand is posed EXACTLY the way Graham’s is. I didn’t say a word, he had to be just like him. Ha!

This is my favorite girl, next to my own sweet girl. She’s polite, nice and stunning. She was thrilled when we announced that we had a girl. Mary Neely is the only girl grandchild among six boys. She was ready. My own little girl immediately goes to her and spends most of her time in her arms. I am relying on Mary Neely to teach her everything she knows. That way, I know she’ll be one great girl, just like her older cousin.

I could go on and on about these two. I am just lucky I have them in my life and that each year, they ask me to take their holiday card picture. Even better is when I get the finished product in the mail.

As always, I love you both.

Lyman Family (Charleston Children & Family Photographer)

As a photographer, I imagine the session in my head. I talk with the client to understand what they’re hoping to get out of each session. Then leading up to it, I’m thinking of how the session will go. Any pictures that I’ve seen that I would like to try? Any that they have in their mind they would like? The best is when those ideas come together so beautifully. This session and this family was amazing!

These two are the nicest little boys you will ever meet. So polite, funny and CUTE!

Hutch is so mature. I took his picture of him and immediately started to laugh in amazement! Just the way he’s sitting and perfectly relaxed for the camera. This is not your average child.

This is my little buddy Hayes. We share the same birthday and therefore, we’re forever friends in my book. I adore him. We decided to walk down to the park and we were playing a game, “you’re a …” (you’re a monkey, well, you’re a button). I snapped this picture as I probably said something ridiculous and he was calling me out on it.

This next one just may be one of my most favorite pictures ever. It’s just classic Charleston. It didn’t hurt that we were in an amazing historic home. His outfit, this home, this kid equals favorite picture ever.

I so enjoyed being with these boys. They truly loved each other. It was refreshing to see. I think I’m going to make my own boys hang out with these two and I’m going to say, “See? THAT’s how you’re supposed to be with each other.” Ha!

Thank you to the Lyman family!

The Lantz Family (Daniel Island Family Photographer)

I had the pleasure of meeting the Lantz family when they asked me to take their family picture. When I arrived at their beautiful home, I was greeted by Caroline, who just turned one the previous week. She looked like a little doll! Such perfect skin and amazing eyes. She could be in a gap ad, I swear.

Caroline is lucky enough to have a big sister. These two just adore each other. I loved seeing their interaction and just look at the way Caroline looks at her!

This entire family is stunning.

Since Caroline turned one the week before. So her mom had the great idea to do a cake smash session. It was so much fun and check out her outfit!

Look how happy she is wearing that hot pink frosting!

Thank you Lantz family. Happy birthday, Caroline!

Rakes Family (West Ashley Holiday Mini Session Photographer)

I love meeting new families. I love seeing the dynamics between them and sitting back watching it all unfold behind my camera. This family was so much fun and adored each other. I loved seeing the brother and sister being so close in age simply bounce around each other.

I love fathers with sons and daughters with mothers. There is just something sentimental about it.

A stunning little girl, an antique chair and 100 year old oaks? Yes, please!

A special thank you to the Rakes family!
