A newborn lifestyle session isn’t just me capturing your newborn in your home- it’s so much more than that. It’s so much BETTER than just that. I am basically a traveling newborn photographer. I bring professional lights, a posing beanbag, wraps, bows- basically everything a photographer has in their studio. I bring it all to your home. Yes, this is a huge convenience for you, but it’s also really special. Not only am I photographing your family, but I’m doing it in a place that means something to you. I photograph your new baby in the home you brought them home to. I photograph you all in the nursery you spent so many months working on for it to be the perfect place for your new baby. I photograph your other children (or fur babies) in their rooms and obviously individuals with their new sibling. You aren’t in some generic studio in anywhere USA, your home is your backdrop. That is really special.
I have had four children all two years a part. When I built my photography business to specialize in newborns, I built it remembering how I felt when I had a newborn. With my last child I had a 6 year old, a 4 year old, a 2 year old and a newborn. There was NO way I was packing four children, a husband, our dog, and me with a fresh c-section to go to a studio to get our new family photographed. Not a chance. Oh and pray those kids outfits last the car ride. Good luck with that! It makes me cringe just thinking about it.

As I started my newborn business I knew that newborn lifestyle sessions what is what new parents need. My sessions typically are around 3 hours long. GASP! Yeah, well that’s how long it takes sometimes. I want it to be relaxed, calm and fun. You have enough going on with a new baby, hormonal shifts, a lot of adjustments, a body that is likely sore, I don’t need to go on. You don’t need to feel pressured, rushed or pushed around. Three hours?! Yes, during this time I set up my lights, I get things set up to put the baby on the bean bag for their individual headshots. We move from room to room, if desired, to capture your family in your home. That typically is on the master bedroom, the living room and/or the nursery. You get the best of both worlds this way, you get a newborn lifestyle session along with studio type images of the baby. It’s all very relaxed and since you’re in your own home so you can get a cup of coffee, take a break, siblings can get a snack and play – while I’m tending to your newborn.
My job is to take pictures yes, but I also want you to be super comfortable while doing it. If you are not, it’ll show up in the images. I tell my clients, I have been through what you’ve been through four separate times. It’s likely that I have felt the way you do. We take it slow. Some of the births were textbook cases and some I came out a little shellshocked. I’ve been there. While I am photographing your new family, relax! It’s important to me that you are not doing too much, so your home is calm and relaxed. I take your kids out for individual images in their room or outside, so they feel special. I be sure to pet and love on your fur babies so they get attention too. I want to leave your home with you feeling like you had a guest in your home for a few hours and that guest just happen to take photographs while she was there. It’s all very purposeful.
