Beautiful Wonder (Newborn Photographer, Charleston, SC)

Looking back at my experiences from my older three children, I laugh at myself. I was so high strung, under confident in my parenting skills and always worried about, well, everything. Now that we’ve had Mabry, our fourth child who is now three months old, I find myself more relaxed. I think we just don’t have the time to dedicate to all that worrying. I can tell her needs by her cries, what she wants by the way she looks at me and I’m much more confident this time around. Yes, it took four kids to get me here. I may have been better than I give myself credit for with the others too, but I don’t remember.

I love the simplicity of babies and children. Their sense of wonder and discovery gets me every time. I took this picture of Mabry the other day right before her nap. She was looking up at the fan going around in pure amazement. Her eyes wide with wonder and I knew I had to capture it right at that moment. I adore this picture of her – it truly captures her the way she is right now. I made myself edit the picture immediately and put in an order with my print lab. A nice 16 x 20 canvas will be arriving this week. She may be our last baby and I need to enjoy the moments as they are moving quicker than usual.

I really love your parents. They were so funny and easy going. They were up for anything! We had the best time walking around downtown Charleston and taking your family portraits. Your mom was a little concerned that since you aren’t able to sit up unassisted that we wouldn’t get any good ones. Well, BOOM, we made it work. You and I – we are a great team.

Carson Family (Isle of Palms Family Beach Photographer)

One of my final beach sessions of last year really touched my heart. I was contacted by a sweet woman who wanted to have a beach session with her parents. She told me that her dear mother, a breast cancer survivor, had discovered that the cancer had returned. She felt the need to capture her parents together, along with her. As breast cancer has touched so many lives, mine included, I immediately said yes!

We met at their beach house on the Isle of Palms and I was introduced to this family and immediately felt a connection. They were so warm and inviting. The mother had a laugh that was so sweet and gentle. When she laughed, which was often, you couldn’t help but laugh too.

This family informed me that having their photographs taken wasn’t the most comfortable thing for them. I completely understood, that’s why I’m the one behind the camera! 🙂 So, instead of starting the session off with formal poses and such, we sat and talked. I asked them questions about their lives and oh the stories I heard! Just a snippet: her husband sold her beloved sports car when she was pregnant with their daughter, without her knowledge! He said she was too big to sit behind the wheel anymore! We all gave him plenty of grief about that! We all got laughing and as a result, beautiful images came from the candid moments. Sure, we did some formal posing after awhile, but my favorite are those images with the laughter I can still hear in my head.

I felt truly honored to spend time with this family. To hear their stories, to hear the love and hope in their voices. I left the session feeling thankful for many things, time, family, love and happiness. It was a blessing to have met these sweet people and to say I once knew a woman with a laugh that could make anyone laugh with her.
